Thanking her supporters, Halle Berry said in her speech, “The only reason I have been here for 30 years, still working and doing what I love on my own terms, redefining myself decade after decade, is because of all of you. Every single one of you. You allow me to be myself.”
She also mentioned her two kids, Nahla Ariela, 13, whom she shares with actor Olivier Martinez, and Maceo Robert, 8, with model Gabriel Aubry.
“My two little kids, they have to lose so much time with their mommy because I get to go work and do what I love, so thank you, Nahla, thank you, Maceo. I hope you find something in life that you can love and you can do with as much vigor and as much zest as I do what I do. I love you guys.”

She tearfully accepted her award, saying, “To be in this room with so many of my peers and so many beautiful people of color just fills me up.”
“When I started 30 years ago, there weren’t rooms like this where I could go and feel affirmed or esteemed. I was often alone, I was one of only a few Black people in the room searching to find my value, searching for my worth. I feel accomplished,” the actress added.
“You’ve watched me fail and fail and fail and fail. Besides directing my first movie, I also found the love of my life and I know it’s true and this is how I know it’s true.
